We’d love to be 16 under

I enjoyed your recent article on older players (“Breaking Eighty,” May), and it brought to mind a question: Is there a national or world record for lowest score below one’s age? Earlier this year, Gen. Bill Ely, playing at Quail Ridge Country Club in Florida shot 74 from the blue tees. That is 16 strokes below his age. As his occasional partner in two-ball matches, I can verify that he has kept a very competitive edge! Harry Cain, Williamsburg. Va.

No one ive are aware of keeps definitive records for lowest score below one’s age.
